The MS2000 is Korg's attempt to break into the virtual analog craze. The advantage of this instrument is the relatively low cost and the hands on interface. Generally the MS2000 series has a nasty sort of sound, it's not a smooth milky instrument. It is very loosely based on Korgs old MS series but in reality it is probably really based on the OASIS platform. However the interface on the MS2000 series makes up for many of it's other short commings. In most cases there is a knob dedicated to each function making it an excellent synth for realtime tweaking. It also supports dual-timbres, a mod sequencer, less than a handfull of effects, DWGS waveforms, and several basic modulation routings. The combination of features gives it a decent range of timbres and allow it to make a passable emulation of Korg's older digital/hybrid synths, create most of the stock analog sounds, and create a few more interesting textures that sound similar to a PPG wave and wavestation when using the mod sequencer creatively. It's an excellent synth for a beginner as long as they can deal with only 4 notes of polyphony.
